As I sit in my office at the church this morning my thoughts keep going in the direction of worshipping the Lord. My sermon this week is about worship, so I suppose that is part of the reason. But as I sit and listen to the sounds of worship in the church this morning, I think it is more then simply the thoughts of my sermon directing me to focus on worship.
I hear the sounds of worship coming from our gymnasium as a dedicated team of volunteers is worshipping the Lord by serving our community through our food pantry. I hear laughing, I hear conversation about how the pantry can be better, and when I poke my head in the gym, I see the love of Christ being shared. I am also hearing the sounds of the piano in our sanctuary as folks prepare for Christmas worship. The sounds of “Silent Night” drift into my office as musicians volunteer their time to glorify God. This is all worship, and to just be here as people worship God with their lives is a testimony to the power of God.
As I sat down to write this, I opened my Bible to 2 Samuel 6 and read the story of David. What a time of worship he had as the ark of the Lord was being brought back. “And David was dancing before the Lord with all his might…” (2 Samuel 6:14 NASB). The phrase with “all his might,” is how I hope my worship is before the Lord. Do I serve with all my might? Do I preach with all my might? Do I pray with all my might? Do I look to bring glory to God with all my might? Do I love my wife with all my might? Do I love my neighbors with all my might? The list of questions could easily keep going.
As many of you may have found if you read these blogs, I am not looking to write deep theological blogs. Now, I may change that as I go, because I have journals full of my theological musings that I would like to share. Today, this blog is just one to pose the question of, “Do we worship with all our might?” I would think we may all find areas to “step-up” our worship. What a week to take those steps as we celebrate Thanksgiving. We can give thanks to the Lord for all that He has done and show the world as David did, that we can worship with all of our might. God bless each one of you.
