Knowing is Loving: Day 16

Psalm 119 Devotional

22 Days: Knowing is Loving

Day 16 (Ayin – verses 121-128)

I have done justice and righteousness; do not leave me to my oppressors. Be surety for Your servant for good; do not let the arrogant oppress me. My eyes fail with longing for Your salvation and for Your righteous word. Deal with Your servant according to Your lovingkindness and teach me Your statutes. I am Your servant; give me understanding, that I may know Your testimonies. It is time for the Lord to act, for they have broken Your law. Therefore I love Your commandments above gold, yes, above fine gold. Therefore I esteem right all Your precepts concerning everything, I hate every false way.

In the opening line today, the psalmist speaks confidently and boldly to the Lord about his actions. Are we confident and willing to speak boldly to the Lord about our actions? To speak confidently of our actions, we would need to realize what God has called us to do, and in that knowledge be willing to step confidently, full of faith, into His will. The prophet Isaiah was called by our Lord, and He stepped boldly as he answered the Lord’s call to action (Isaiah 6:8-9). Sometimes that bold step for God is going to bring trouble for us but be encouraged that doing justice and righteousness is what the Lord calls us to do. The Lord will stand, will walk, and will keep us as we move forward in His will even as we may find ourselves oppressed. As our psalmist alludes to, it may even feel that we cannot persevere but fighting for God’s will to be done will be rewarded one day as we enter into His glorious presence.

The light of God’s word, which is the only source of truth, will guide us in His lovingkindness, as we serve Him. The questions may come as to, “why Lord,” and “what Lord,” but let us be strong in serving the Almighty God who has given us everything. In everything that He has given us there will come an understanding one day that everything will be clear, and when finally we are in His presence all of our questions will be answered. Can we fully grasp all of what heaven is? Maybe our coming to the Lord was prompted by the fear of hell, but the reward we will find in heaven is not yet fully understood. We do know that any tears, pain, and trouble of this world will be wiped away (Revelation 21:4). Let us press on each day as we serve our Lord and God.

As we serve and operate in God’s will, we will find moments when we desire judgment to be delivered against those who are against us. But remember that the Lord’s perfect testimonies speak to us, and that He has promised to take care of all things. We can focus on what God has called us to do. The psalmist placed the commandments of God high above even the things of greatest value in this world. Let us like the psalmist trust God, speak boldly and confidently of His word, and always seek to keep ourselves on the path that is marked out by Him.

Lord God this world challenges me greatly, but I will move boldly and confidently in Your word. I do know to do that Lord that I need to pursue You in an even greater way, but more importantly Lord I can do nothing without You by my side. Father in heaven, I look forward to that great and glorious day when I will be face to face with You. I know Lord that I can push through and survive all things of this world as I place my hope and faith in You. Thank you, Lord, for always walking with me, and never leaving or forsaking me.
