I purchased a new Bible for myself last week. It is the same version, the same font size, the same as what I have, except it is new. It has been hard to get used to, as the pages on my old one are well worn in, while in the new one the pages still stick together. Plus, I miss all of my notes and highlights that are in the old one. I still have it, and now I find myself carrying two Bibles with me in my backpack. Today in my personal study I have arrived at one of my favorite parts of God’s Word. Now mind you, the page is not worn out yet, there are no notes along the side, and the print is not a little faded.
The verses in question are Micah 7:18-19, and start off with the question of, “Who is a God like you?” That is an easy answer, is it not? I sometimes read that as a question, as a statement, and many times as a reminder. Maybe it is not such an easy question depending on what circumstances surround us. We change, God does not, as He reminds us in the final section of verse seventeen. “He delights in unchanging love.” God never changes; that statement to me was life changing and still focuses me in on the God who loves me every time I read it.
Verse 19 contains a statement that I have used very often in my preaching. “Yes, You will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.” This follows the fact that God will again have compassion on us and will tread our iniquities under His feet. This does not lessen the fact that God hates sin. It paints us the picture of His love for us, and should we choose to confess our sins and iniquities to Him, what His actions will be. He does not overlook our sinful actions, but He deals with them in a way that allows us to move forward in His love.
What is my point in writing this after I have lamented about getting a new Bible? Simple, the physical Bible I am reading and studying from has changed, but God’s Word never has and never will. God Bless each one of you.
